saw this short then watched the when I eventually got around to watching the Extinction playlist. As you were building it I was thinking this looks familiar for some reason then I saw it again. This popped up in my feed again today probably because I just watched the stupid comments shorts.

I had that happen too. I was running my first ever horde every night game. I decided to build myself a rather nice if basic raised melee hatch hallway base. I got like 75% of the way done then BOOM! Whole base collapsed out from under me because I didnt have enough support. I was standing on top of the base putting on the roof when it all fell as the sun was setting. Thankfully day 1 hordes dont require cobblestone bases to survive because I was fresh out. :p I had enough time to build a box large enough for two hatches to stand behind, no roof, no back wall, all wood. Oh, and a sprained leg iirc. Lesson learned, from now on all horde bases are solid structures because I dont feel like risking it.

You did well to restore it so fast lol. I woulda made do with a POI for 1 horde- gone to the nearest 3 story house and knocked out the stairs, added some doors and spikes and escape route off the roof and made done with that. A 3 story house will stand for at least 1 horde, even at a much higher stage, though it will get trashed.

I should point out, after his grieving was done, he realized his chest was intact with his horde ammo and he got his shit together and successfully fought off the hoard. A lesson that in life, disasters happen, accept, adapt, thrive.

I saw that episode! you pulled a horde base out of your posterior and managed the horde but MAN you had to go full balls out to do it! awesome!

building in this game is trash

We’ve all done that…in fact I think I did almost exactly that one time. The problem for me is not supporting the load bearing walls, then adding a roof (combines to exceed the 7 block unsupported limit). Additionally if you upgrade to wet concrete it also behaves like wood.
My personal advice is to do no construction on the day of a horde, finish it the day before (or the day after a horde) and spend horde day prepping ammo and supplies. This way when you do collapse your base you have some time to recover.

I have removed a temporary wood frame placed on the floor of a build, the wood frame wasn’t supporting anything, wasn’t near anything…when I removed the wood frame a wedge tip on a roof 15 blocks away horizontal and ten blocks vertical just broke…bang…broken.

And this is why I build solid structures, through and through. If its going to overhang, I build it to the ground and 10 meters into it. This games physics and calculations are fucking bonkers and I grew tired of it long ago. I’d rather mine for several days and miss out on loot, than have it all come tumbling down at a critical moment.

I was very impressed you could pull everything together and still survive the horde night. A true testament to how you can think on your feet in a pinch. I love your 7d2d content but it is nice to see you experiment with other content too.
