You can break the lock and the alarm and when the zombies spawn, go away from it till the zombies despawn and just come back.

Pulled a tier 6 sniper rifle from my 2nd cop car in the wasteland. Cop cars are definitely worth it. But also understand it is a chance to spawn that feral horde that is slightly above your level. By default, it is an 85% chance to break your lockpick any time you use one. Which actually gives some merit to investing skill points into lockpicking and hunting for the thief magazines, which will also lower that chance. I believe that with both skills and magazines maxed out and combined, you can drop the 85% chance to around 45% or less. Or you can just edit the game files and drop the break chance yourself to your preferred setting to avoid all the leveling and hunting for magazines involved. My server went ahead and did the game file edit, but not very many people wanted to go that thief or rogue style character with such points. Play it your way.
